I cannot get MySF to complete the graph when I specify inclusion of the benchmark "^AORD". The progress bar stops about half way and, after a moderate delay, an error message appears saying that MySF has encountered a problem and needs to close, with an invitation to report the problem to Microsoft.

Hi,

Does the same problem occur if you try to draw the chart without benchmarking? Do you normally encounter problems when attempting to revalue assets using the automated data feed?

Regards,

MySF

There is no problem drawing a straightforward graph without benchmarking.

I have twice tried an automated revaluation of all my ASX-listed assets, as at 31 Dec 2007, recently. The first attempt took a very, very long time and failed completely, returning zero for all assets. The second attempt, a day or so later, also took a very long time. The result was that roughly the first half of the asset list (alphabetically by ASX code) failed, but the other half was revalued accurately. The first half included such codes as BHP, CBA and DJS.

I should also mention that I have been unable to update MySF via the "File - Check for online updates" functionality - see my posts under this topic in the threads re 3.2.0, 3.2.1 and 3.2.3. In each case, you have sent me special links as workarounds. Might this might be related to the above problems?

Hi,

The problems are probably related. Each of the three areas of revaluations, benchmarking and checking for updates uses your Internet connection to retrieve the required information.

Do you have broadband Internet or dial-up? If you have dial-up then some of these tasks may take quite a long time and may fail with a time-out problem if there is an excessively long delay.

If you have broadband then please check that you do not have firewalls or any security software blocking MySF Manager from accessing the Internet.

Regards,

MySF

I have an ADSL2 connection.

Windows Firewall is off. MySF.exe is "trusted" by my software firewall, so there should be no problem. If the firewall ever has a problem, it displays a request for instructions, and no such request has been displayed. My anti-virus software is set to display a warning if it detects any problem, and no such warning has been displayed.

These problems have not always been present. The benchmarking used to work until relatively recently and I have done checking for updates and automated revaluations before. Unfortunately, I can't be sure when the problems commenced but it may have been about the time of the 3.2.0 update. But, if no one else is having these troubles, I suppose it points to something here rather than with MySF. I could check with my ISP, but I have no trouble with any other internet access.

Hi,

One of the remedies that you could try is to uninstall MySF Manager from your computer and then reinstall it again. There was a significant change when we went from 2.x to 3.x. This may cause your firewall and/or antivirus software to ask for instructions or at the very least display some sort of message about how they are going to treat MySF Manager's attempts to connect to our servers.

To uninstall the software please use the usual Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs.

To reinstall MySF Manager please download the demo version and install that. This is always the latest version. The software will automatically pick up the existing data and your activation details so nothing will be lost.

Regards,

MySF

I uninstalled and downloaded the demo version. On re-installation, there was a problem - an error message about a file with an extension ".msi" not being where it should be. I thought the installation had failed. However, it appeared that MySF had been installed but had failed to take up any of my data. I have had to re-create my fund and then restore from a backup which I had made before uninstalling.

I have tried the benchmarked graph again and the check for online updates and they are behaving the same as before. There have been no queries from my anti-virus or firewall.

Hi,

We received the data file that you sent through.

The revaluation and the benchmarking both worked ok, with no unexpected delays. It is highly likely that there is something on your computer or your network that is causing problems when MySF Manager tries to download information from the Internet.

After you open a fund in MySF Manager you should find that the software loads a panel into the left hand side of the dashboard (the menu and charts in the middle of the screen). This panel usually displays your user details, a link to the forum and other information. This panel is also generated using content retrieved from our server. Does this panel show up when you open a fund in MySF Manager?

There are some other bits of information that may help us in diagnosing this problem. Are you using an office (company) network which may offer you only limited access? What brand of firewall and anti-virus software do you use?

Regards,

MySF
