Hello

I believe that there is still a rounding problem issue in the new distribution completion functionality.

I have sent an email with a screen shot which hopefully will provide you with sufficient information to replicate the problem.

Regards

Hi,

The email that you sent through shows a confirmation box for processing a transaction. In the case of that example there will be four such boxes that pop up because there are four dividends / distributions being completed.

The process shown is very similar to the one that pops up when you are recording a buy, sell, income or expense.

This is not an error and it looks like the transaction listed balances. Therefore, when you click 'yes' for the processing question it will proceed with completing that dividend / distribution.

We are working on checking the rest of the information in the email and if we find any problems we will post them here and also send the information through to you by email.

Regards,

MySF

Hi

Sorry, I should have explained further.

The purpose of the screen shot was to allow you to replicate the problem. I was not concerned about the dialog box.

When I do click the 'yes' button an alert is raised indicating that the sum of the franked, unfranked, foreign income, capital gains etc... is not correct. It is this alert that I am concerned about.

Hi,

As detailed in the email sent to you a couple of minutes ago, we have been able to replicate exactly the same warning as mentioned in your email and we have also been able to calculate the exact reason that it occurs.

In the process of completing previously incomplete dividends and distributions the software needs to split the various yearly totals of components back to the original postings. The proportion of each split depends on the amount of the original incomplete postings. Of course each split must be to only two decimal places as we are talking about a currency figure. This is the area of the program that caused the rounding error which was fixed in the previous update.

The problem was that when the amounts were split and rounded, the sum of the rounded figures sometimes did not add up to the total. Example: if we split 100.00 three ways, round to two decimal places then the sum of the split will only add to 99.99. This has now been fixed and the last of the split amounts is calculated as a leftover figure rather than based on proportion.

However, the fix means that sometimes a 1c amount may end up somewhere other than expected . Using the example above, the 1c that makes it add to 100.00 could end up with any of the three items (typically it will end up with the last one). This is very similar to what happened in your case. A 1c amount has triggered the warning after it had to be shifted from one amount to another. Specifically, 1c was shifted from the $428.73 distribution to the $484.40 distribution as otherwise the transaction could not be made to balance. This is what triggers the warning. In this case it can be ignored.

Regards,

MySF
