Would it be possible to create Hierarchal asset allocation categories.
You could imagine a hierarchy with Property at the top, followed by Australian property and International property, both of which would contain Listed and Direct property.
Similiar hierarchies could exist for fixed interest, equities etc.
The reporting facilities, and compliance stuff would be aware of the hierarchy structure as well.

We would be happy to lookat it but we would need to understand why and what tou are tring to achieve.
We have made the Asset Category fully user defined with the exception of cash. It is integrated with the Investment strategy as well.
If you could let us know what you are trying to achieve there may be another way
