I have recently been having some problems with my PC and it looks like I will have to format the hard drive to start with a clean slate. Is it possible to load MySF onto my laptop and transfer the data across? Also, can I have the program installed on 2 computers, as added protection? If not, how do I save my data so that I can re-install it when I have formatted the HD. I don't have a CD burner in the PC, but I do in the laptop.
Any help would be appreciated!

Yes, the software can be loaded on two PCs, please use the same details for installation as the first time. We also recommend that users perform periodic backups of their data, and copy it to an external source, such as a CD.
Transferring data between two computers can be done in a number of ways:
(1) perform a backup (Housekeeping > Backup), which will copy the fund's file and all attachments into the folder defined as backup under the Folders tab in File > Settings. You can then either copy the contents of that folder onto a floppy disk and then to the other PC; or email the files to an address (your own if you want), then open the email from the other computer, and save the attachments on that PC.
(2) if you do not use the attachment functionality, then all information about your fund is contained in one file. (The location of this file is displayed in the bottom left hand corner of MySF Manager when you have the file open, or on the Fund Selection screen if you point at the file name with your mouse pointer.) Move this file across to the other PC using either a disk, CD or email; then open MySF Manager on that PC and click Browse on the fund selection screen, locate the file and you should be able to open it.
Please ensure that MySF Manager is closed when you copy the file, as otherwise it will be marked as open, and MySF Manager gives a warning message when you next open it, as detailed below.
Possible problems and error messages:
"Cannot load fund" message appears when attempting to open file on other PC. This usually happens if the file is transferred from a CD, as it is automatically marked as read-only by Windows. To overcome this problem, select the file, right click, go to Properties and check that the Read-Only box is not ticked.
"Fund may have been moved" message appears when you open the fund. This comes up if the file is located somewhere other than defined under Folders tab of the File > Settings screen. Please change these settings and the message should go away.
"Fund may be open by someone else" message can happen under three circumstances:
1. the file is open in another instance of MySF Manager, perhaps on another computer on the network
2. the file was copied while MySF Manager was open and therefore was not flagged as properly closed.
3. MySF Manager crashed, and the file was saved, but not flagged as properly closed.
Usually this message will go away if you click on File > Select Fund and select the fund again. This will properly close and reopen the file.
Regards,
MySF Pty Ltd
