You should find that your bank reconciliations show correctly after the next update.

The problem was in the filtering of the information, not the information itself.

The 'past bank reconciliation' report was set to display all transactions for the given account from the start date of the financial year through to the date of the bank rec. So the date range for what was to be included in the report was set initially as the start of the financial year through to the date of the bank reconciliation. In the next step the software tried to find any previous bank reconciliations for the same account. It then reset the start date of the date range to the date of the most recent bank reconciliation on this account.

The last step of the above is where the problem occurred. When looking for the previous reconciliation on a given bank account the software sometimes picked up the wrong bank reconciliation and therefore picked up the incorrect bank reconciliation date. This meant that the start date was set to an incorrect date, which in turn caused the date filtering to reject lines that should have been included in the report.

The above also explains why you saw some of the problems mentioned, such as more and more transactions being excluded from these reports as more bank reconciliations are processed.

Regards,

MySF

RE: Bank reconciliations - transactions missing

Hi,

I am finding this very confusing.

I can accept that the problem is with the date filtering - in fact there seems to be other problems with the filters eg my other post regarding distributions not showing up when filtering transactions by distribution.

It seems to me that any filtering problem has to be either:

a) a problem with the filtering software, or

b) a problem with the data being filtered

If I understand you, you are saying because you cannot reproduce the problem with other data files (just my fund file) then you rule out a) and assume the problem is b).

However, I have some problems with this:

- the data is generated by MySF (not imported from some other source)

- whilst I can see that there could have been some event which corrupted some data, the behaviour of the reconciliation reporter does not seem to gel with this -

- what seems to be constant is that for any reconciliation where some transactions are not displaying it is always the last transactions which DO show and the earliest transactions which DON'T show.

- at any point the transactions reported and missing are consistent, ie running and rerunning the reports gives the same results UNTIL new transactions and reconciliations are processed then more transactions generally drop off some of the "view past reconciliations" reports.

- it is the actual process of running a reconciliation which creates problems with other past reconciliations (from different bank accounts) - see my post of 14/02/08.

So while the problem may indeed be in the data being filtered - it is running the bank reconciliations which are causing/changing these problems.

Whilst I appreciate the problems of fixing unreproducible faults, the fact is you can see and reproduce this fault in my fund file. I have a considerable amount of time and effort invested in my MySF fund file and I do not expect to be told, in effect, no one else is having this problem - live with it!

Regards
RE: Bank reconciliations - transactions missing

Hi,

When testing on 3.2.2 we did get mixed results. This meant that some reconciliations showed up as expected and others were missing transactions. Testing on the latest version also showed up similar results, in that some transactions were excluded.

The specific reasons for the exclusions appeared to be due to a failure in the date filtering, meaning that some transactions were excluded because the report filter saw them as being outside the specified date range.

The same tests ran without problems on other funds. For this reason we are unlikely to change that filter at the moment.

Regards,

MySF

RE: Bank reconciliations - transactions missing

Hmmm,

Considering you said last February (when we were at version 3.2.2):
We have tested the data you have sent through and have also received mixed results when recalling past bank reconciliations. At this point it looks like the error is likely to be display level only and data is not affected.

Unfortunately changes to this area of the software will not be included in the next update, but will be included in the following one.
I find it disappointing and a little worrying that you can still see this problem with my fund file but you say:
We have not been able to find why this happens with your fund.
Whilst I accept that:
this will not affect the accounting within the software and will not impact on the accuracy of calculations.
The fact remains that bank reconciliations, together with other reports generated by MySF, are used to check that we have put all our info in correctly - we rely on them to be accurate and complete.

This error was one that I noticed - and now am aware of - however when sending my MySF file off for audit I had to advise the auditor that the problem was there but that the transactions were OK - just not to rely on viewing the reconciliations to check them.

More worrying is that if I have THIS problem (apparently unexplainable & unsolvable) - how do I know that I can rely on the reporting aspects of MySF - see my other post regarding distributions not showing up when filtering transactions by distribution - again the problem is not with the actual info in the fund but with the display/reporting of the info - but we need to be able to rely on this stuff.

Back to this specific problem - can you tell if it is just a problem with the previously entered info or is it ongoing with my fund file - ie if you enter some new transactions into my fund file and then do a new reconciliation does the problem persist into the new reconciliations.

More questions come to mind but I'll stop at that for now :)

Regards,

RE: Bank reconciliations - transactions missing

Hi,

We have tried to replicate the same problem on the current version of the software (6.0.1). All tests have worked fine on the files we have used in tests. However, when using your fund some transactions did not show on the bank rec, exactly as per your previous postings and emails. Specifically, they are missing from the bank reconciliation reports.

We have not been able to find why this happens with your fund. However, this will not affect the accounting within the software and will not impact on the accuracy of calculations.

Regards,

MySF

RE: Bank reconciliations - transactions missing

Hi,

I had a bit of a holiday from the superfund accounts, so I still have 4.01 installed, but I now see we have been through several 5.** versions and are now at 6.01 - however, since the forums currently show there is still at least one unfixed bug (members position report), I haven't yet updated to this.

I thought I would check, however that the outstanding problem of the bank reconciliations has been fixed in one of the several subsequent updates.

I had a quick scan through your various release postings but could see no specific reference to fixing it so could you confirm which update fixed this - or is it still ongoing.

Regards

RE: Bank reconciliations - transactions missing

Hi,

There will be an interim update issued to address the asset movement report subtotals problem described by DESUPER.

We will check how and why the problem of the bank reconciliations still remains and address it in that update if possible.

Fixing any bugs is of course a high priority, hence the decision to issue the update with the fixes rather than wait until all new functionality is ready as well.

We always do our best to ensure that releases are as bug free as possible. Unfortunately there are a couple of problems that evidently did get through despite our best efforts. Fortunately, both of the issues are display level items that do not cause any errors elsewhere for the fund.

Regards,

MySF

RE: Bank reconciliations - transactions missing
Unfortunately changes to this area of the software will not be included in the next update
Which was 4.0
but will be included in the following one.
Which is the recently released 4.0.1

However, I have upgraded to 4.0.1 and the problem still remains.

When do you plan to fix this - I agree with DESUPER's sentiments in that I would place a much higher priority on fixing existing problems than introducing a whole bunch of new features (and hopefully make sure the bugs are out of the new features before you release them!)

RE: Bank reconciliations - transactions missing

Hi,

We have tested the data you have sent through and have also received mixed results when recalling past bank reconciliations. What seems to be constant is that for any reconciliation where some transactions are not displaying it is always the last transactions which DO show and the earliest transactions which DON'T show.

Current status for 15 reconciliations across 3 bank accounts - as it displays for me:

BW1 2 of 14 showing
BW2 1 of 2 showing

ING1 OK: 4 of 4 showing
ING2 1 of 6 showing
ING3 1 of 4 showing
ING4 Should have 3 but says there are no transactions (now say this consistently)

CBA1 5 of 11 showing
CBA2 OK: 8 of 8 showing
CBA3 OK: 3 of 3 showing
CBA4 8 of 15 showing
CBA5 OK: 1 of 1 showing
CBA6 OK: 1 of 1 showing
CBA7 5 of 15 showing
CBA8 Should have 4 but says there are no transactions (now say this consistently)
CBA9 Alternates between correctly showing 3 of 3 and saying no transactions.

Note also that your reply regarding the attachment problem does not explain everything that I observed (I have replied in detail in that thread).
RE: Bank reconciliations - transactions missing

Hi,

The attachment problem outlined in your other post is a display level issue and your data is ok. There is a reply to that effect being posted by one of our staff right now.

The reconciliation problem described does sound very odd. It is not likely that there is any issue with the transactions, it is more likely that the reconciliation record itself (or possibly just the display) has some sort of a problem. Would you be able to send through your data file as an email attachment to info@mysf.com.au so that we can run some tests on it? This would help us to pinpoint why the recall of the past bank reconciliations is not showing the expected result.

Regards,

MySF

RE: Bank reconciliations - transactions missing

A quick follow up which may/may not help you explain what the problem is.

I decided to experiment with a backup.

I deleted all the past reconciliations. Then I unreconciled all the transactions (by showing unreconciled then unchecking all then "reconciling" to make the change stick.

Then I started reconciling again - but checking on the past reconciliation printouts as I did so. The problem does not seem to be specific transactions so much as interaction between different reconciliations. Heres what happened:

I reconciled BW1 (14 transactions) & BW2 (2 trans) both went fine and the reconciliation retorts were fine.

I reconciled ING1 - still all OK

I reconciled ING2 - the first 5 transactions disappeared from the BW1 report

I reconciled ING3 - the next 5 transactions also disappeared from the BW1 report (leaving only 4 transactions showing)

I reconciled ING4 - hitting the print button on this gives either "no transactions against this reconciliation" or it shows just the last two of 3 transactions (repeated "print" attempts just shuttle between these two outcomes.

I reconciled CBA1 - only the last 5 of the eleven transactions show on the report. Also the first transaction disappeared from the ING2 report.

At this point, I gave up but no doubt if I had continued there would have been more interaction.

The only pattern I noticed up to this point was that when transactions start disappearing, it is the earliest transactions in a particular reconciliation which start disappearing from the reports first.

HELP!!!

Bank reconciliations - transactions missing

I don't know if this is related to my attachment problem (previous post), ie another symptom of a corrupted database, but here's the problem.

I had done 8 bank reconciliations on three different bank accounts. All reconciliations went fine - all transactions showed up and were reconciled and all balances matched.

Then I decided to use the "view past reconciliations" feature - to see how a reconciliation printout would look. Here's what I found:

Account 1, four statement reconciliations:

Statement 1: fine, all four transactions shown
Statement 2: only one of six transactions shown (last one)
Statement 3: fine, all four transactions shown
Statement 4: first says "no records for this reconciliation" then, if you repeat, it shows two of three transaction and, if you keep repeating, it alternates between the "no records" and showing 2 of three.

Account 2, three statement reconciliations:

Statement 1: only five of eleven transactions shown
Statement 2: fine, all eight transactions shown
Statement 3: fine, all three transactions shown

Account 3, two statement reconciliations:

Statement 1: only four of fourteen transactions shown
Statement 2: fine, both of two transactions shown

In every case (whether the reconciliation shows correctly or not) the correct bank balance and zero difference is shown.

Also if you show reconciled transactions - all the transactions show up - its only when you use the "view past reconciliations" that the transactions get lost.

Again, I am getting increasingly worried about the integrity of this software/database - the whole reason for getting it was for reliable records and reporting and this is my second major problem in as many days.

I have now invested a lot of time in setting up the fund and inputing data and I urgently need to finish up the accounts for audit - so a speedy reply would be greatly appreciated.
